Weight Loss
Whether you want to lose weight or maintain a healthy weight, it's important to
understand the connection between the calories your body takes in (through the foods
you eat and the beverages you drink) and the calories your body uses (through normal
body functions, daily activities, and physical activity). Working in some exercise
each day will give your metabolism a boost. Anything that gets your heart pumping
faster will do. Start out today with a brisk walk or a bike ride. Work your way
up from 10 minutes a day to 30 minutes a day and you'll make a significant difference
to your overall health. read more...

Stress
Numerous surveys and studies confirm that occupational pressures and fears are far
and away the leading source of stress for American adults and that these have steadily
increased over the past few decades. While there are tons of statistics to support
these allegations, how significant they are depends on such things as how the information
was obtained, the size and demographics of the targeted group, how participants
were selected and who sponsored the study. Click here to read

Body Image
With a positive or healthy body image, a woman has a real perception of her size
and shape, and she feels comfortable with her body. With a negative body image,
a woman has a distorted perception of her shape and size, compares her body to others,
and feels shame and anxiety about her body. Being unhappy with your body can affect
how you think and feel about yourself as a person. A poor body image can lead to
emotional distress, low self-esteem, dieting, anxiety, depression, and eating disorders.
Developing a positive body image and a healthy mental attitude is crucial to a woman's
happiness and wellness. read more...

Chronic Pain
There are 2 types of pain: acute and chronic. Acute pain doesn't last long and usually
goes away as your body heals. Chronic pain lasts at least 6 months after your body
has healed. Sometimes, when people have chronic pain they don't know what is causing
it. Along with discomfort, chronic pain can cause low self-esteem, depression and
anger, and it can interfere with your daily activities. Treatment of chronic pain
usually involves medicines and therapy. Medicines used for chronic pain include
pain relievers, antidepressants and anticonvulsants. Different types of medicines
help people with different types of pain. read more...

Aging
The United States is on the brink of a longevity revolution. By 2030, the number
of older Americans will have more than doubled to 70 million, or one in every five
Americans. The growing number and proportion of older adults places increasing demands
on the public health system and on medical and social services. Chronic diseases
exact a particularly heavy health and economic burden on older adults due to associated
long-term illness, diminished quality of life, and greatly increased health care
costs. Although the risk of disease and disability clearly increases with advancing
age, poor health is not an inevitable consequence of aging.

Depression
Some people don't really understand about depression. For example, they may react
to a depressed person's low energy with criticism, yelling at the person for acting
lazy or not trying harder. Some people mistakenly believe that depression is just
an attitude or a mood that a person can shake off. It's not that easy. Sometimes
even people who are depressed don't take their condition seriously enough. Some
people feel that they are weak in some way because they are depressed. This is wrong
— and it can even be harmful if it causes people to hide their depression and avoid
getting help. read more...

you need about the various surgical options. Ultimately your bariatric surgeon and
other physicians are your best resource for information about the procedure they

Lap-Band Surgery
A Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Band procedure is a purely restrictive surgical
procedure in which a band is placed around the upper most part of the stomach. This
band divides the stomach into two portions, one small and one larger portion. Because
food is regulated, most patients feel full faster. Food digestion occurs through
the normal digestive process. read more... |

Gastric Sleeve
Sleeve gastrectomy is a restrictive surgery that permanently reduces the size of
the stomach by about 85 percent. This procedure is helpful for patients who wish
to lose weight but have health conditions that make combined restrictive/malabsorptive
surgery less safe at this point in time. These patients may want to consider a malabsorptive
procedure like duodenal switch (DS) later to lose more weight.

Orthopedics is the medical specialty that focuses on injuries and diseases of your body's musculoskeletal system. This complex system includes your bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles, and nerves and allows you to move, work, and be active. Once devoted to the care of children with spine and limb deformities, orthopedists now care for patients of all ages, from newborns with clubfeet to young athletes requiring arthroscopic surgery to older people with arthritis. And anybody can break a bone. |

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Carpal tunnel syndrome occurs when the median nerve, which runs from the forearm into the hand, becomes pressed or squeezed at the wrist. The carpal tunnel - a narrow, rigid passageway of ligament and bones at the base of the hand - houses the median nerve and tendons. Sometimes, thickening from irritated tendons or other swelling narrows the tunnel and causes the median nerve to be compressed. The result may be pain, weakness, or numbness in the hand and wrist, radiating up the arm.

Tennis Elbow
Tennis elbow, or lateral epicondylitis, is the most common injury in patients seeking medical attention for elbow pain. Exactly what causes tennis elbow is unknown, but it is thought to be due to small tears of the tendons that attach forearm muscles to the arm bone at the elbow joint. The pain associated with tennis elbow usually has a gradual onset, but it may also come on suddenly. Most patients with tennis elbow are between the ages of 35 and 65 years old, and it affects about an equal number of men and women.
